Groo The Hogs of Horder #2 eBook Mark Evanier Sergio Aragonés Reviews
Now that Groo is little more than a vehicle for Mark Evanier's political views, it just isn't funny any more. Since Mark is extremely Liberal, the books are full of Liberal doom and gloom and snide elitist condemnations. If I want political bile, I can tune in to most anything on the foul cable news stations. Thanks for ruining what was always a humorous escape. Maybe the next miniseries can be a four-issue attack upon hamburgers.
This is the first time I read a Groo novel and simply did not find it funny at all.
The metaphor (American intrusion in Iraq, greedy capitalists, etc) is so blantantly obvious, so "in your face", that, no matter how truthful it can be, there's scarce originality in the script itself.
Of course Evanier and Aragones use it all the time, but this time it backfired, in my opinion.
Well packaged and delivered on time, grow is always a good comic to read. Many more pages than a regular issue. It came new.
Sergio Aragones' artwork is gorgeous and funny as always, and the storyline - which parallels the financial crisis - is make-you-think funny. It's not the straight-up slapstick readers of the original series have come to know and love, but it's just as amusing if you're willing to go along for the ride.
Excellent work and excellent reproduction. A simple parable about a complex world. Or is it a complex parable about a simple world. Or is it a simple parable about a simple world. I am not sure, but something like that. Whatever.
I love Groo but the binding on the book is poor. It did not survive 4 days with my 8 year old, who owns many books and has not blown out the binding on any of them. Very disappointing.
Perfect
